Technology-Based Motivation Activities

1. Immersion in a Virtual World

Students take on the identity of a space explorer in a virtual space environment, and then solve a series of math challenges designed to build students’ confidence in solving complex math problems.

2. Vicarious Modeling

Students watch video interviews of real-life math and science professionals, and then watch computerized versions of these professionals model effective problem-solving strategies within an authentic context.

3. Connections to Real World

Students watch an engaging video about how the concepts they learn in mathematics are used on a daily basis by a diverse set of math and science professionals. This is intended to introduce students to exciting math and science jobs they may never have thought of.
